Game Up!: 20.4% of guests came back to redeem a prize that was only valid from the next day

Game Up! set its wheel so that no prize could be used on the night it was won. Between February and August 2026, 34 of the 167 guests who spun came back within the 14-day window to redeem, and 22.8% saved the prize to Apple or Google Wallet, five times the platform rate.

The challenge

A board game bar lives on weeknight regulars. The question was whether a prize could turn a first visit into a second one, rather than discount the bill the guest was already paying.

Discounts on the night would have cost margin without proving anything about return. The venue wanted a prize that could only be used on another day.

Two locations, Game Up! 2 and Game Up! Pub, running the same wheel with the same prizes.

What the venue did

  1. 1

Every prize became valid 24 hours after the spin and expired after 14 days. Redeeming meant coming back.

  2. 2

Concrete prizes only: a second nachos free, a bottle of Soproni beer, a 1,000 Ft voucher, six shots for the price of twelve, a lemonade, and a 1% jackpot as the star prize.

  3. 3

The prize saved to Apple or Google Wallet, with the pass and an email reminding the guest before it expired.

  4. 4

The Google review link shown to every guest after the prize, with no condition attached.

The wheel

  • Second nachos free (25% odds)
  • Six shots for the price of twelve (25%)
  • 1,000 Ft voucher (18%)
  • Soproni beer (16%)
  • Lemonade (15%)
  • Jackpot (1%, star prize)

The results

167 spins at the main location from 119 unique emails; 34 prizes redeemed (20.4%), every one of them at least a day after the spin.

22.8% saved the prize to Apple or Google Wallet (38 of 167), the highest rate of any venue on the platform.

Wallet-pass holders redeemed at 23.7% (9 of 38) against 19.4% (25 of 129) for guests without a pass.

24.6% opted in to marketing (41 of 167), below the 40% platform average; the consent box is optional and was not pushed.

11.4% of guests tapped the Google review link (19 of 167).

68% of spins happened Monday to Wednesday (113 of 167) and none on a Sunday. Monthly spins grew from 16 in February to 42 in July.

The second location, Game Up! Pub, ran the same wheel: 66 spins, 62 contacts, one redemption.

How each number is counted

  • 167 spins: One spin is one guest completing the wheel on their own phone, at the main location.
  • 20.4% came back to redeem: Prizes redeemed by staff: 34 of 167. Every prize became valid 24 hours after the spin, so each redemption is a second visit.
  • 22.8% saved the wallet pass: Spins where the prize was saved to Apple or Google Wallet: 38 of 167. Platform average 4.4%.
  • 24.6% marketing opt-in: Spins where the guest ticked the optional marketing consent box: 41 of 167. Platform average 40%.

What made the difference

  • The 24-hour delay is the whole story. At venues where the prize is valid immediately, redemptions mostly happen on the same visit and say nothing about return. Here every redemption is a return visit, which is why 20.4% is the number on this page and not a platform-wide claim.

  • Small numbers. With 167 spins a handful of guests move a percentage by a point or two; read the direction, not the decimal.

  • Same wheel, same prizes, two results: 34 redemptions at Game Up! 2 and one at Game Up! Pub over the same months. The wheel measures the venue's follow-through as much as the prize.
