The challenge

A lane booking stores one name for a group of four to six. The other players bowl, pay and leave without the venue ever learning who they were.

Friday and Saturday fill the lanes; Monday to Thursday do not. The venue wanted a way to bring weekend groups back on a quiet night.

The wheel had to work at the bar and the lanes without staff typing anything, in Hungarian, for guests who had never seen one.

What the venue did

  1. 1

One QR code at the lanes and the bar. Guests scan it on their own phone, spin, and leave an email to receive the prize.

  2. 2

A discount-heavy wheel: a 5% discount at 56% odds and a 10% discount at 32%, with a free game of bowling, a free game of billiards and a 10,000 Ft voucher as the rare prizes.

  3. 3

Prizes valid for 14 days and redeemable immediately, so most were used on the same visit.

  4. 4

The Google review link shown to every guest after the prize, with no condition attached.

The wheel

  • 5% discount (56% odds)
  • 10% discount (32%)
  • Free game of bowling (5%)
  • Free game of billiards (5%)
  • 10,000 Ft voucher (2%)

The results

485 spins in 16 weeks, about 30 a week, and 390 unique guest contacts.

38.8% of guests opted in to marketing (188 of 485): 41% in April, 39% in May, 36% in June.

8.9% saved the prize to Apple or Google Wallet (43 of 485), twice the platform rate.

43.5% of all spins happened on Friday and Saturday (211 of 485); Saturday alone was 119 spins, a quarter of the total.

7.2% of guests tapped the Google review link (35 of 485), half the platform median of 15%.

79 prizes were redeemed (16%). Because prizes were valid immediately, these were mostly same-visit uses and are not counted as return visits.

How each number is counted

  • 485 spins: One spin is one guest completing the wheel on their own phone.
  • 390 guest contacts: Unique email addresses left to receive a prize. 80% of spins came from a new email.
  • 38.8% marketing opt-in: Spins where the guest ticked the optional marketing consent box: 188 of 485. Platform average 40%.
  • 8.9% saved the wallet pass: Spins where the prize was saved to Apple or Google Wallet: 43 of 485. Platform average 4.4%.

What made the difference

  • Discounts made up 88% of the prizes and the review tap rate was 7.2%, half the platform median. Across the platform, concrete prizes (a free game, a drink, a snack) get 30 to 39% review taps against 8 to 9% for percentage discounts. A free weekday game as the common prize would most likely have lifted both reviews and weekday visits.

  • Prizes were redeemable on the spot, so the 79 redemptions say nothing about return visits. Game Up!, which delays every prize by 24 hours, shows what a wheel measures when redeeming requires coming back.

  • The wheel has recorded no spins since 20 July 2026. The numbers above are the complete run, not a snapshot of an ongoing one.
